The creators of Assassin’s Creed Mirage told why they chose Basim the main character of the game

In Assassinʼs Creed Mirage, the main character will be Basim Ibn Ishak, one of the characters of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. In this game, he will go from a cunning street thief to an experienced master-killer. Thanks to him, Evor found himself in the ranks of the Assassins from the Brotherhood of the invisible. He became the first secondary character in a series who is destined to become a protagonist of a separate game.

Game Informer editors have prepared an Assassinʼs Creed Mirage and asked Ubisoft Bordeaux why they chose Basim as the main character. And how it is connected with the protagonist of the original Assassin’s Creed, Altair? Stefan Budon, creative director, replied:

Bassim is a very interesting character in which there are many puzzles. The story of his youth is a great opportunity to study it, moreover, it is largely similar to the history of the hero Altair. Altair constantly had to prove his life credo, rising up in the ranks of the Assassins, and the same can be said about the Bassim.

Budon explains that since Mirage was the tribute of the first part of AC, and Basim is the tribute Altair, this parallel in the travels of the two assassins was very important for the developers. And since Basim was from Baghdad, his story aroused even more interest among the team, since in the 9th century Baghdad was the main cultural and technological center in this region.

According to Simon Arseno, the head of the quest creation department, he has a special interest in "Assassin fantasy", in which Bassim appears. He noted that Cassandra in AC: Odyssey touched the topics of the Greek demigods, Avor in AC: Valhalla reflects the world of the Viking era, and Bayek from AC: Origins – about ancient Egypt. But Bassim returns to the classic image for Assassin’s Creed: a deadly silent assassin.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage art director Jean-Luke Sala says that creating the image of a new bassim for AC: Mirage was not easy, but he was interested in:

We know what happened to Basim in AC: Valhalla. There was a turning point in his life, because of which these two periods are very different. We wanted to talk about him as a real assassin so that players could empathize his stories. And when it changes sharply, it makes the players not only understand it, but also experience a certain fear when it is no longer the bassim.

Assassinʼs Creed: Mirage will go on sale on October 5 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
