The creator of the Fallout series shared his ideas about the possible remake of cult classics

Tim Kane publishes another video in the series "Kane about games" On YouTube, in which he discusses various issues related to his work as a game designer. In the last video, the American answers the intriguing question: as one of the fathers of the Fallout series is a remake of the first part of the cult series?

This question Kane was asked by Evan Chantland, who also took part in the development of the first Fallout, being a player of PC version of the game. At the same time, he proposed examples of new opportunities that could be included in the update of this post -apocalyptic game.

However, the developer rejected one of these proposals. Kane in no case would like the basic construction to appear in the Fallout remake directly from the fourth part of the series. However, he prepared his own long list of changes.

Kane noted that, in his opinion, the Fallout remake should be the same game, only "Better and more modern". In a nutshell, this means removing or finalizing the least successful elements, as well as finalizing or adding those for which the developers did not have enough time.

  • Instead, the developer agreed to make a chantland’s proposal to make the entire card available for research, possibly using procedural generation "Caves, mountains, etc.D." like in Arcanum (only "better", than in that setting).
  • From Arcanum, Kane would also like to see a stronger reaction of the world to the player’s character, whether in the form of comments on the equipment, weapons, companions and actions of the player, settlement of cleared locations (for example, replacing the city’s population with bandits or radioactive fauna) or making changes to the map as a result of the actions of the protagonist.
  • Kane also once again mentioned the finalization of artificial intelligence (mainly companions) and "cleaning" interface (for example, to make it easier to control with a mouse and keyboard). In mechanical terms, he would also like to make small changes to the system S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (mainly strengthen charisma and slightly balance intelligence and dexterity) and increase the limit level of the character (perhaps even remove it at all, although he admits that this would be a risky step).
  • In addition, the developer thought about the modernization of visual design Fallout: this is preparation "the same, but more detailed" graphs and various changes in perks (for example, "Scout", which reduced the likelihood of sometimes interesting random meetings), and, of course, the elimination of various errors.

Kane understands that some of these modifications will require a huge amount of work. Especially it concerns "reactive" a world that will require writing new dialogs

Nevertheless, many of them are necessary in order, in the end, to make a game of this age attractive to the modern audience and allow veterans to discover what was unknown in the original. And, most importantly, that, in spite of everything, Fallout remains the very game that almost 26 years ago went down in the history of video games as one of the most significant role -playing games.
